Picking a wedding venue is a pretty big deal. It sets the tone of the whole wedding and there are so many options to choose from. But don’t worry, just follow these simple steps and you will be sure to find the perfect place for your special event.
Before you make any decisions, you need to make a draft budget. Don’t sign a contract with a venue only to realize down the road that you have no money left for that photo booth bus you’ve been coveting since you were a little girl.
Know and understand what kind of wedding you want and look for an uncommon place to have it. I captured a wedding that took place at an Airbnb home (with consent of the host, of course). It was a whole weekend extravaganza and it was so unique and fun!
Some other ideas might be art galleries, warehouses, an aquarium, a sports stadium, or even a treehouse! The sky’s the limit, so have fun.
Answer These Simple Questions to Pick Your Venue
- Does this venue’s capacity fit my estimated guest list? For real. One way to figure this out is to ask at the site “what number of guest is most successful in this space?” Just because you can fit 200 people, doesn’t mean you should.
- Does this venue’s layout fit my needs? If you’re doing the ceremony, luncheon, and reception all in one venue, does it have separate spaces? Or are you going to have to do a “flip”? How will that work?
- Does this venue have catering restrictions? Sometimes a venue makes you use one exclusive caterer (which is usually pricey and can push your budget)
Remember to Stay True to Yourselves
With all of the Pinterest Weddings nowadays, a lot of couples choose venues based off of the style they fell in love with online. But it’s so important to know how you feel and what is authentic to you as a couple. Then you can choose a space (and design) that represents and highlights you.
